Child refugee in south Tel Aviv. At least he has a coat and a roof over his head. Many don’t. They come to Israel from Sudan and Eritrea via Egypt. The most dangerous part of the journey is right when they cross the border in Sinai. Hamas has “operatives” (read: terrorists) there. To raise money, they hold refugees hostage and torture them – the aim is to see if they have relatives who made it to Israel who can pay a ransom. If not, well, you know – trafficked kidneys are also worth money. If you want to know why people like this child’s parents risk that just to come here, read about Eritrea (hint: it’s not because of the great work opportunities in Israel, because they don’t have work permits).
