yay! another photo collage from you. i love the sense of motion and of time in this. especially the repeats of the little escalator images. these little ones make me think of how that happens all day long – people going up and down the escalators.
i also like how this seems so universal – as if these scenes could be found in any mall of this size in any place in the world.
i liked your remark about people going up and down escalators all day – actually i was sitting waiting for someone in the mall, and was mesmerized by all the different people going up that escalator.
yes, malls are the same everywhere… “non places” as auge called them. one of the reasons i don’t like them (that and i don’t like shopping) – though israelis do adore their malls.
you can’t tell from this image, but this one is actually a bit different, certainly than other “cookie cutter” malls in israel. it has a very weird layout, and although it does have the bog-standard chain stores that you find everywhere it has a lot of unique shops as well. there is also a huge food market here on fridays, a fashion market where people can hire stalls and sell their stuff, and a place where kids hang out and do hip hop and break dancing.
it’s also, apparently, a place to hit on women. i’ve had several very odd propositions in this mall.
